12pm - New Year's Day
After celebrating New Year's Eve at the Flora-Bama there is only one way to start the new year .... by taking a plunge into the Gulf of Mexico with a few thousand of your friends.
The Flora-Bama Polar Bear Dip is THE event of New Year's Day along the gulf coast. Groups and families gather in costume, swim suits and some even in wet suits to feel the brisk salt water on their face.
Take a dip in the Gulf of Mexico at
high noon. Those who fully submerge will get a free draft beer and a free New Year's lunch of ham, black-eyed peas, greens and cornbread.
Event Details Below
People start arriving as early as 9am to hang out and engage in the new year commadarie, but everyone dips in the water exactly at NOON on New Year's Day on the beach behind Flora-Bama. After the dip, everyone is invited to come inside and enjoy the Flora-Bama all day with live music going through the day and night. For anyone who dips in the water, we provide a free draft beer and free plate of food with the traditional New Year's fixins' like ham, collard greens and black eyed peas.
No, we know that the water can be cold so come stop by and get rid of your New Years hangover with a quick dip and then enjoy a warm cocktail inside the Flora-Bama.
Well we don't measure the tempurature each year. Some of our regulars measure it by body part affects but we will save that for another website.
We are fairly open to any ideas for the costumes. We want you to be careful for your safety ...AND there is always plenty of news stations covering the event each year :)
We are sure this goes back hundreds of years, but around the Flora-Bama most of the crazy ideas come from Pat. You will be meeting him at the event and we always look forward to his outfit.
Nope, absolutely nothing ... except your pride, dignity, ego and ability to say anything other than BRRR for a few minutes.
The biggest beach party on New Year's Day!. Flora-Bama is the place to be for every holiday and this is one of the biggest.
